Game of Thrones fan? Roman history connoisseur? Or just a curious mind? This walking tour is designed just for you! This off the beaten path journey into history takes you beyond the typical tourist spots to some of the most mysterious medieval monuments. Interesting is an understatement!
The tour starts near the Tevere, the river that crosses Rome, and continues up to the Aventino Hill – one of the seven hills on which the Eternal City was founded back in the 8th century B.C. That small mountain was the most southern and hardest to reach of the city, so that’s why monks and knights built their monasteries and sanctuaries up there, back in medieval times.
But don’t worry, you wont need to bring your hiking sticks, it is now very easy to conquer! You’ll meet with local guides at a central location, reachable by public transport. Then you’ll make your way to the top of the hill on a panoramic path while taking in the sights of intriguing ancient monuments; medieval churches, secluded gardens, monasteries and more.
Your guides will give you all sorts of information and anecdotes that will certainly impress you – it’s quite something to walk in such a historical place, in the footsteps of renowned knights, royals and emperors!
Get your camera ready! When you reach the top, you will be rewarded with incredible views of the city.
And of course, Italian knights would never finish a walk of any sort without food and a glass of wine! You’ll enjoy some typical Roman delicacies with your friendly guides.
The tour was designed for history buffs and curious minds, so if you have any questions, ask away! The groups are formed of maximum 8 guests so everyone gets their burning questions answered and the conversations are always fun and interesting.
Enjoy!
