Holy Houses of Art
See some of the most impressive art in Rome (hidden in these lesser known churches)
Description
We all know about St. Peter’s Basilica and the beauty of the Vatican, but did you know there are more than 900 HUNDRED other churches in Rome? With so many to choose from, and with all of the art, history and culture they contain it’s only natural you may feel just a tad overwhelmed, to say the least!
This itinerary is designed to delight lovers of art and architecture. During this tour, you may feel a little like you are starring in your own "Da Vinci Code", as you discover places in Rome not mentioned in the guidebooks, where very few tourists ever visit.. And that's a shame, as they are missing out on some major masterpieces.
On this 3 and a half hour walking tour, led by a very knowledgeable and passionate guide, you will see some of the most beautiful and fascinating churches the city has to offer.
Like San Giovanni dei Fiorentini, with its incredible altar designed by Borromini. Or what about Sant'Andrea della Valle? One of the biggest churches in the city whos' organist can often be heard practicing in the afternoons. If your timing is right you may just get to enjoy this sonic treat - magico no?
These are just a few of the churches and temples you’ll see, and then toss in the famous Piazza Navona and the Pantheon to top it all off? Well, all we can say is “Take me to Church!”
